JOHN WILMSHURST - Grasslands Ecologist, Western and Northern Service Centre, Parks Canada, Winnipeg, Manitoba
John Wilmshurst is the grassland ecologist for Parks Canada based in their Winnipeg, Manitoba office. He has received his MSc and PhD from the University of Guelph studying the foraging ecology of large herbivores and spent 18 months with Agriculture Canada in Lethbridge, Alberta studying range ecology in his post-doctoral research. In addition to his work on this project, his current research projects include a long-term study of the conservation biology of plains rough fescue (Festuca hallii) prairies, factors influencing the population trajectories of large mammals (sheep and bison), remote sensing of biophysical features of grassland landscapes and he has developed an ecosystem model of key interactions with Species at Risk for Grasslands National Park using the TELSA simulator (www.essa.com).

John sits on the steering committee of the Grasslands National Park Grazing Experiment with responsibilities in project management and coordination as well as sitting on the committees of several graduate students working on the project.
