NICOLA KOPER - Assistant Professor, Natural Resources Institute, University of Manitoba
Nicola Koper is an Assistant Professor at the Natural Resources Institute (NRI) at the University of Manitoba. She completed her post-doctoral fellowship in landscape and statistical ecology at the NRI, her Ph.D. in conservation biology at the University of Alberta, and her M.Sc. and B.Sc. at the University of Guelph. She has studied a range of species, from prairie songbirds, to woodland caribou, to painted turtles. Her research has included topics such as the effects of grassland loss and fragmentation on ducks and songbirds, and exploring effects of cattle grazing and field subdivision on ducks, songbirds and shorebirds. Other current projects include a study of effects of tall-grass prairie loss and fragmentation on grassland birds in Manitoba, and the role of transmission line corridors in mitigating effects of that habitat loss.
Nicola sits on the steering committee of the Grasslands National Park Grazing Experiment, focusing on study design and project management, and supervises several graduate students involved in the project.
